Neyveli Township located in a sprawling 35 sq km in the vicinity of NLC India Limited’s Thermal Power Project and Mine Complex was established in a staggered manner since 1959. The Township has individual and hostel type quarters to the tune of 20000 numbers.
There are 30 blocks in the Township with approximately 1 sq km each. Neyveli Township is catered with uninterrupted Water and Power Supply round the year. Neyveli Township is completely spread with greenery and in aerial view will be seen as green patches alone devoid of any major civil structures. The large greenery has been developed over a long period of time since 1959.
Neyveli Township is connected through road and rail networks. The National Highway NH45C (Vikkravandi to Thanjavur) passes adjacent to the Neyveli Township. The rail link between Cuddalore port and Vridhachalam passes through Neyveli Junction. The nearest airport is located at Puducherry at a distance of 70 kms and the nearest international airport is located at Tiruchirappally at a distance of 160 kms. Neyveli Township is located at a distance of 200 kms from Chennai.
Neyveli Township has the following places of tourist interests in its vicinity.
1. Chidambaram: The places of interest are Chidambaram Natarajar Temple, Thillai Kali amman Temple and Annamalai University.
2. Pitchavarm: The mangrove forest provides opportunity for boating and offers several scenic views.
3. Cuddalore: The port city has few famous temples and also a beach for relaxing.
4. Puducherry: The earlier French colony encompasses a beach, vinayaga temple, anjeneya temple and auroville.
5. Vridhachalam: The city houses the famous siva temple of vridhagireswarar apart from many other ancient temples of importance.
